Can it be 21-years since this day?

Meath's Paddy Reynolds and John McDermott close in on Brian Dooher of Tyrone during the 1996 All Ireland SFC semi final at Croke Park.

Today marks the 21st Anniversary of one of Meath's most memorable All-Ireland semi-final wins. It was the day that Leinster champions Meath demolished favourites Tyrone at Croke Park on August 18th 1996.

John McDermott and Jimmy McGuinness totally dominated midfield while Graham Geraghty scored 1-4 and showed why he was the best footballer in the county as he picked up the Man of the Match Award. The Seneschalstown man got great assistance from Trevor Giles, Brendan Reilly and Barry Callaghan

Mark Reilly, Millennium man Martin O'Connell and Darren Fay were immense at the back.

Meath were physically stonger all over the field and the Ulster champions could not cope. The Royals second goal arrived courtesy of Barry Callaghan after an assist from Geraghty in injury time. When Galway referee Michael Curley blew the full time whistle Meath were comfortable winners on a 2-15 to 0-12 scoreline.

The starting Meath team was the same XV that defeated Carlow, Laois and Dublin (final) in the Leinster campaign.

Meath: Conor Martin, Mark O'Reilly, Darren Fay, Martin O'Connell, Colm Coyle, Enda McManus, Paddy Reynolds, Jimmy McGuinness, John McDermott, Trevor Giles 0-3, Tommy Dowd, Graham Geraghty 1-4, Evan Kelly, Brendan Reilly 0-5, Barry Callaghan 1-3. Subs: Colm Brady and Jody Devine
