JDFC: Bracks too strong for Ballinlough

Ballinabrackey 2-16 Ballinlough 1-04

Ballinabrackey's second team travelled to Athboy on Sunday morning to face Ballinlough in round 3 of the Junior D Championship in perfect conditions.

Unfortunately Ballinlough only had 14 men available for most of the first half and The Bracks punished them racing into a 1-5 to no score lead after just ten minutes with Dean Coyne grabbing a very fortuitous goal which the keeper failed to hold on to. Aidan Flynn and Alan Dunne among the other scorers with some fine points from play. Ballinlough did get their first score not long after from a free but the Bracks stayed strong at the back with the evergreen Brian Lucey thwarting many of Ballinlough's efforts. Points from Kevin and Dean Coyne finished off the half  leaving the interval score at Bracks 1-11 Ballinlough 0-2.

Ballinlough were a much tougher outfit in the second half now that they had their full 15 and the Bracks struggled to break them down early on. Points from Ronan Thompson and Mark Kavanagh got the Bracks back on track eventually and a 2nd Dean Coyne goal not long after really put the tie to bed.

Gavin Quinn got himself onto the field after an injury lay off and managed to tag on a point for himself. Ballinlough piled pressure on in the last 10 minutes and Bracks 'keeper Brendan Byrne made some excellent saves before Ballinlough eventually hit the net. The Bracks defence were on top throughout the game leaving the Ballinlough lads relying on two frees to get their second half points.

Team: Brendan Byrne, Barry Coyne, Barry O Connor, Aaron Gannon, Kevin Coyne, Brian Lucey, Daragh Daly, Vinny Mooney, Ronan Thompson, Alan Dunne, Shane Dunning, Kevin Swords, Dean Coyne, Mark Kavanagh, Aidan Flynn. Subs Gordon Bannon, Gavin Quinn.

Originally pencilled in for Friday evening the game was rearranged due to the sad passing of Junior D management Alan and Aidan Dalton's mother Sheila Dalton. May she Rest in Peace. The club wish to thank Meath County board and Ballinlough GFC for their agreement in rearranging the game
