Wolfe Tones were totally dominant in this one sided encounter and led from start to finish. Thomas Blaney (3) and Saran O Fionnagain (1) accounted for the opening Tones scores inside the first 4 minutes and when Davy O Neill added 1 01 shortly afterwards Tones led by 1 05 to 0 01 after just 10 minutes of play. O Mahoneys replied with a point before Saran O Fionnagáin notched a beautiful point from distance off his left foot and Thomas Blaney finished a flowing Tones move to the net to leave the score 2 06 to 0 02 after 20 minutes. The teams traded 2 points each before the interval to leave the half time score Tones 2 08 O Mahoneys 0 04.
O Mahoneys needed a good start to the second half but it was the Gibbstown men who got the ideal start when Charlie Mc Garry finished a Davy O Neill centre to the net in the 31st minute to give Tones an unassailable lead. Tones added 3 points, 2 from Saran O Fionnagáin and 1 from Alan Fox by the 34th minute and were comfortable thereafter with Cian O Neill and Alan Callaghan dominating the Navan mens' kick out. Alan Fox pulled the strings throughout with Thomas Blaney and Sarán O Fionnagain in devastating form up front.
