FL Div 1: Bragging rights for Blackhall

Blackhall Gaels 2-14 Moynalvey 0-10

When two neighbouring clubs meet, at any level, in any competition, there is a sense of urgency in the air. Who will take the spoils, who will have the bragging rights, etc. This has always been true for Blackhall and Moynalvey, but has been amplified in the last few years since establishing Jenkinstown. As the boys come up through underage they play with their neighbours, but underneath that they are rivals, as was shown in last Saturday's game.

The teams took to the pitch and not five minutes into the game Moynalvey set the tone, having a man sent off. Daniel Carty had to be subbed off after the incident and Hugh Smith took the field. Blackhall had a man black carded before the end of the first half, losing Jonny Myler. However, the Blackhall remained calm and maintain their lead at the half, 2-7 to 0-4 goals coming from Tadhg Brosnan and Paul Kelly.

The second half resumed the high intensity and physicality of the first, with hard tackles and some less than elegant footballing moments. Losing Sean Whelan to a red on another day might have been the end of Blackhall but again the men showed their composure and kept their heads, for the most part. The final whistle sounded on a battlefield more than a football one, with Blackhall Gaels taking home the spoils. Final score in Kilcloon was Blackhall 2-14, Moynalvey 0-10.

This win puts Blackhall sitting comfortably out of the relegation zone on 8 points. The lads are looking good and displaying excellent team work on the field. Keeping their heads will be their biggest challenge ahead, as losing their cool could end up finishing their campaign early.

Blackhall Gaels: Tommy Dalton, James Kelly, Tomas Delaney, Tom Murphy, Daniel Carty, Colum McEliggott, Patrick Brady, Patrick O'Brien, Robert McGuinness, Alan Nestor, Tadhg Brosnan, Paul Kelly, Jonny Myler, Sean Whelan.

Moynalvey Report

Moynalvey went down to neighbours Blackhall Gaels on a 2-14 to 0-10 score line in this Div. 1 A League Round 6 game played in Kilcloon on Saturday evening April 22nd.

Blackhall Gaels 2-14 Moynalvey 0-10

Both sides finished the game with 14 men, Moynalvey playing the game with 14 for almost the hour following the early dismissal of Eamon Walsh, while Blackhall's Sean Whelan saw red in the final minute. Moynalvey's woes were further compounded in the 13th minute with the loss of Stephen Donoghue to injury.

Blackhall were guilty of numerous wides early on and it was Moynalvey who opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Fearghal McCabe. The home side eventually opened their account in the 15th minute with a Tadhg Brosnan point.

With 24 minutes gone the sides were inseparable, 0-4 apiece, but within the 10 minutes before half time Blackhall's numerical advantage told as they scored 2-3 without reply to hold a nine point lead at the break, 2-7 to 0-4.

Ultimately Blackhall's scoring burst before the break proved crucial, as the second half was evenly contested with the home side just pipping the scoring stakes 0-7 to 0-6, leaving the final score 2-14 to 0-10.

Moynalvey: Ray Ryan, Scott Tuite, Conor Harnan, Brian O'Reilly, Eamon Walsh, Stephen Donoghue, Darragh Branigan, John Donoghue, Donal Smith, Shane Lenehan, James O'Neill (0-7, 4f), Conor Shirren, David McLoughlin, Fearghal McCabe (0-1), Darren Brennan.
