Ladies: Meath hoping for a positive league start

Meath captain Niamh O'Sullivan gains possession against Westmeath

Manager Eoin Hennessey will be hoping for a positive start to the new season with an away fixture to start the Lidl Division Three National Football League. Meath will travel to Down to get proceedings under way.

Meath Ladies have not been in Division 3 of the League since the 1990s and will be hoping for a swift return to Division 2. Indeed it was 1993 since they were in Division 3. They went on to win promotion, a Junior Leinster Championship title and an All Ireland Semi-Final spot where they eventually lost out to Donegal.

This is a whole new ball game and very few if indeed any of the team that played Down in 2014 remain on the panel. That last game against Down went to the wire where Meath lost out by a single point. It could have been so different that day but several key decisions didn't go the way of Meath.

This year's league will prove to be particularly difficult with four of the seven games away. Long trips to Limerick in Round 2, Tipperary in Round 4 and Leitrim in Round 7 are par for the course.

New Captain for the year Niamh O'Sullivan will be anxious to rally the troops and get off to a winning start.
