Ladies: Dream Team Number 6

August 29, 2016

Sinead McCormack - St Michaels

It's the beginning of the end for the Coca-Cola Championships as the final rounds of competition are down for decision. With so many games on, the skill and talent on show makes this Dream Team one of the most difficult yet. Based on match reports and details submitted up to Friday evening, the following is this week's 'Dream Team'. Please note there will be a special Dream Team for our Championship Finals!

1 - Caroline Griffin - Blackhall Gaels; Back to her finest and was in spectacular form in goals for Blackhall Gaels as they took on neighbours Moynalvey. Made a number of outstanding saves to keep her side in contention and her kickouts ensured the Gaels launched attack after attack at the Moynalvey rearguard.

2 - Ailbhe Rooney - Seneschalstown; Was picked at corner back but ended up out the field following her opponent. Does not need a second invitation when getting possession within range and kicked two excellent points from play as her side overcame a stern Boardsmill challenge.

3 - Orla O'Rorke - Drumbaragh; Shone in her side's defeat to Rathkenny/Slane including the conversion of a spot kick. Together with her fellow defenders, limited the opposition to just three scores in the second half to insure a tight finish.

4 - Sarah Darby - Royal Gaels; It is no surprise that the Gaels have finished their Intermediate Championship unbeaten as Darby has been in immense form, snuffing out attacks and overturning possession time and again. Will be key for her side as the black and amber head for semi-finals.

5 - Laura Bagnall - Boardsmill; The Boardsmill Captain has been on top form lately - shone brightly in her side's win over Simonstown and was key to both defence and attack as her side slipped to a narrow defeat to Seneschalstown. Chipped in with four key points from the wing back position and will be key for the 'Mill as they take on Oldcastle in the final round.

6 - Mary Clinton - St. Michaels; One of three players from the Michaels in this week's Dream Team, Mary was at her best as the home side defeated Donaghmore-Ashbourne. The Michaels defence snuffed out chance after chance for Ashbourne and Clinton was at the heart of it.

7 - Lucy Kelly - Royal Gaels; Her finest outing in the black and amber. Ran herself into the ground in her side's win over Rathkenny/Slane. After an all action first half she was given the unenviable task of marking Leah Reilly in the second half and managed to restrict the Rathkenny player to shots from distance. A player to watch for the future undoubtedly.

8 - Sinead McCormack - St. Michaels; McCormack always gives 100% in every contest and the battle against Donaghmore Ashbourne was no exception. Her linking backs to forwards was key and she also chipped in with a super six points from her midfield berth.

9 - Adrienne McCann - Ratoath; Back to her best as Ratoath stunned Summerhill in the final quarter to seal the spoils. Picked out the correct pass time and again as Ratoath upped the ante.

10 - Emer Smyth - Seneschalstown; Crucial to her side's Junior C win over a tough Royal Gaels squad, hit nine points in total with eight from play. Will be a considerable threat in the semi-final against Simonstown.

11 - Jenny Rispin - Summerhill; Ran riot against Ratoath, hitting a tremendous 2-05 tally in total, including a penalty. Used all of her experience and was probably unlucky to be on the losing side of the scoreline.

12 - Kiah Geraghty - Seneschalstown; A constant threat to the Simonstown rearguard on Friday evening and chipped in with five key points as the Yellow Furze side went on to claim victory.

13 - Aisling O'Reilly - Ratoath; The Ratoath forwards collectively sprung into action in the final quarter of their Intermediate Championship game against Summerhill - with five points from the boot of O'Reilly crucial to victory. Aisling's experience and sharp pace will challenge any defender and this was certainly the case against Summerhill.

14 - Marion Farrelly - St. Michaels; The All Ireland winning Minor Captain finished with 1-04 but could have finished with more as her side defeated Donaghmore-Ashbourne this week. A constant threat and always chasing down possession makes Farrelly one of the county's most promising players.

15 - Tara Ryan - Royal Gaels; The Dunshaughlin side have finished top of the Intermediate table with eight wins from eight outings. Ryan has been a steadying influence on proceedings and two terrific performances where she hit 1-10 against Ratoath and 1-07 against Moynalvey make her a worthy choice on this week's Dream Team.
