Wintry weather to contend with

Last weekend's round of club action threw up plenty of surprise results with Keegan Cup holders Navan O'Mahonys and fancied Dunboyne amongst the teams that suffered defeats. Here are the players that caught our eye...

1. David Nolan (Wolfe Tones): Had to be at his best in crucial periods of the game. Produced some fine reflex saves, not to mention that cheeky back heel in the first half, to keep O'Mahonys out as the Tones got their first win in the driving wind and rain at Pairc Tailteann.

2. Thomas McGuinness (Rathkenny): Solid and composed at the edge of the square especially in the second-half when Ballinlough came looking for scores. Rathkenny eased their relegation worries in Pairc Tailteann.

3. Daniel O'Neill (Wolfe Tones): Spent the last few games in the middle of the park for the Tones but has found his ideal position at the edge of the square. Kept a tight rein on David Bray for the hour in that surprise win over the county champions in Pairc Tailteann.

4. Sean McCabe (Seneschalstown): Carried out his defensive duties to great effect and not shy about coming forward to help out in attack as Seneschalstown maintained their 100% record and marched on to the quarter-final stage.

5. Eanna Harrington (Wolfe Tones): Never put a foot wrong for the hour in the wind and the rain as Wolfe Tones finally came good with that surprise victory over champions O'Mahonys in Pairc Tailteann.

6. Brían Conlon (Simonstown): If Colm O'Rourke's charges are to progress they will have a lot to thank the centre-back for. Brilliant at the heart of their defence once more as the Gaels kept themselves in the running with that win over Dunshaughlin at Ashbourne.

7. Conor Downey (Na Fianna): Impressive as ever and always in the thick of the action. Scored three points from the half-back line in tha win over Moynalvey as Na Fianna progressed to the quarter finals.

8. David Toner (Curraha): Gave a Man-of-the-Match performance in the replayed win over Drumbaragh. Toner ran the show from the middle third and scored three fine points in that 1-15 to 2-7 win that propelled 'The Ha' to the top of Group C.

9. Micheal Byrne (Summerhill): Bossed proceedings around the middle sector scoring three points in the process as Summerhill moved level on points at the top of Group B with a 1-16 to 0-9 win over Duleek/Bellewstown at Dunsany.

10. Seamus Mattimoe (Gaeil Colmcille): Skryne could simply not handle the pacy attacker. Top scored with seven points, including that late leveller for the Kells men in Pairc Tailteann.

11. Conor O'Brien (Skryne): The playmaker was in fine form as Skryne secured a draw with Gaeil Colmcille. His two second-half points were well worth the entrance fee into Pairc Tailteann.

12. Shane Landy (St Patrick's): Gave a brilliant display on the half forward line scoring four points including the match winner as the Stamullen men caused the shock of the round beating Dunboyne in a wet and windy Duleek.

13. Sean Tobin (Simonstown Gaels): Turned in a super performance that yielded five points before leaving the pitch with an injury in that 1-13 to 0-11 win over Dunshaughlin at Ashbourne.

14. Caolach Halligan (Rathkenny): Gave a master class display, especially in the first-half against Ballinlough. The full-forward finished with 1-5 in their 1-13 to 1-8 win in Pairc Tailteann.

15. Dylan Brady (Donaghmore/Ashbourne): Fast becoming one of the best attackers on the club senior scene. Played the opening rounds of the championship with the Intermediate team but has really blossomed since his promotion. Scored 2-1 in the 2-10 to 0-13 win over Ratoath.
