All County A Football Leagues nearing completition

June 30, 2016

St Colmcille's are finding the going tough in Division 1 while Syddan are flying in Division 3

It may only be the end of June but the Meath All County A Football Leagues are fast approaching competition. We take a look at the four divisions but first here is the new format with regards to finals, promotion and relegation.

The top 2 teams in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 shall be promoted to the next highest division. The bottom 2 teams in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 shall be relegated to the next lowest division. The team placed third from the bottom of Division 1 shall play the third placed team in Division 2 with the winner playing in Division 1 in the following year and the loser playing in Division 2 in the following year. A similar promotion/relegation playoff shall take place in Divisions 2-3 and 3-4.

Where teams finish with equal points for Qualification for the Concluding Stages, or for Promotion or Relegation, the tie shall be decided by the following means and in the order specified as per Rule 6.20 T.O.

Extra time must be played in the event of a draw in any league semi final, league final promotion/relegation play off or any other play off.

The second and third placed teams in Division 1 shall qualify for a League semi-final with the winner playing the first placed team in the Division 1 League Final. League winners in the remaining divisions shall be determined by playing a final between the teams finishing first and second.

Division 1

With only three game remaining Donaghmore Ashbourne continue to set the pace at the top of Division 1, dropping just one point out of twenty with nine wins and a draw. St Pats follow in second place on 15 points. Last years winners Dunshaughlin have struggled in the league this year winning 4 drawing 1 but losing 5. St Colmcilles who were promoted along with Gaeil Colmcille to the top flight last year along with Duleek Bellewstown prop up the division. The top two play each other in the final round in Stamullen.

Division 2

It's fairly close at the top in Division 2 with four points separating the top nine teams. Moynalvey moved into pole position during the week with that top of the table clash win over Rathkenny. Des Lane's charges are just behind along with Ballinlough and Blackhall Gaels, both relegated from Division 1 last year, on 13 points. Nobber, St Michaels, St Ultans and Drumbaragh carry the relegation worries.

Division 3

With only two games remaining in Division 3, Syddan are three points ahead of their nearest rivals, Dunderry. Bective and Curraha are four points adrift of the leaders, both clubs have won six games but lost 3. At the bottom of the table Drumconrath and Carnaross look in relegation trouble but the latter are showing encouraging signs winning their last two outings. Bective versus Dunderry in the last round will be a game not to be missed.

Division 4

The Division 4 title looks to be between four clubs, Kilmainhamwood, St Vincents, Ballivor and Moynalty. The Wood currently top the group on 16 points with Vincents and Ballivor the minimum behind. St Pauls are at the bottom and are the only club not to have gathered a point in the entire league.
