FL Div 1: Tones gain revenge over Gaeils

April 28, 2016

Oisin Reilly's Gaeil Colmcille will now face Daniel O'Neill's Wolfe Tones on Thursday in Athboy.

Gaeil Colmcille 0-08 1-13 Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones came to Grangegodden looking for revenge on Gaeil Colmcille after the Kells side knocked them out of last years championship.

The visitors came away with the 2 points after a fine performance.

Beano Hanlon got Kells off the mark with an early brace of points but that was responded to with 7 unanswered points throughout the first half in which Wolfe Tones dominated. Hanlon sent over a couple more points to keep the Gaeils scoreboard ticking but the Tones finished out the half in style and led 0-04 to 0-10 at the break.

Kells battled hard in the second half and a fine effort from midfielder Cormac Keegan seemed to spark a revival but soon after things went from bad to worse when corner back Paul Tormey was given a 2nd yellow and reduced the Gaeils to 14 men. The game then became out of reach when the Tones raised the games only green flag from a goal mouth scramble. Oisin Reilly pointed two close range frees for Kells late on but it wasn't enough.
