May 16, 2013

Castletown's Paul Bellew
Castletown 1-14
Kilmainhamwood 3-3
Castletown made hard work of qualifying for the U14 Championship Division 6 Final with a tough encounter with Kilmainhamwood last night in Nobber. Kilmainhamwood opened the scoring with a well taking point which was cancelled out by Captain Mark Kelly. Castletown stormed into a commanding lead with points from Paul Bellew (2), Thomas Mc Mauns (2), Evan Hoey (1) and Mark Kelly (2) and Kilmainhamwood hit back with an excellent long range point from their Captain Ryan Gillespie who worked hard throughout the game to keep his side in the game. Paul Bellew broke through the Wood defence to blast the ball to the net and left Castletown with a 10 point lead at half time. (1.09 to 0.02).
The second half started of slow and Castletown totally took the foot of the brake and Kilmainhamwood rallied with two well taking points and a pile driver of a goal by Ryan Gillespie to reduce the lead to 5 points. Castletown eventually got on the score board with points from Jamie Hickey, Mark Kelly and Evan Hoey to extend their lead back to 8 points. Kilmainhamwood began to take control in the last 10 minutes and the ever impressive Ryan Gillespie hammered home two goals to leave two points between them. The Castletown defence worked extremely hard and a solid display from Alan Weldon, Killian Markey, Michéal Doherty and goal keeper Evan Carry prevented any further threat to their goals. Paul Bellew and Mark Kelly (2) kicked points at the end to seal the victory and qualify for their second successive championship final in two years. Captain Mark Kelly was outstanding at midfield throughout the game and was well supported by Thomas Mc Manus, Evan Hoey and Paul Bellew who took their scores well. Another good solid team performance by the lads in green and gold who go on now to play Curraha in the final next week.
