Joe Tierney St. Michaels/Nobber

St. Michaels/Nobber 3-08, Longwood/Clonard 1-08

Three goals from Joe Tierney sent the St. Michaels / Nobber combination through to the division 3B Shield final over a spirited Longwood / Clonard side in Carlanstown on Saturday morning last.

The winners got on the scoreboard first with points from Tierney and Jamie Duffy however the visitors were on level terms by the tenth minute. Tierney then pointed from a free before bagging his opening major on 18 minutes for a 4 point lead. He added his third point on the stroke of half time for a 1-4 to 0-5 interval lead.

Substitute Kevin Reilly opened the second half scoring with a point, points from Tierney and Lorcan McEntee followed and the St. Michaels / Nobber side looked well on their way to victory however a goal and a string of points put the Longwood / Clonard side one point to the good at the end of the third quarter, a lead which could have been greater but for some fine saves by Niall McMahon. Then two goals in a five minute spell from Tierney put the game out of the visitors reach with five minutes remaining, the home side could even afford to drive a penalty wide of the posts in the latter stages as the Longwood / Clonard lads failed to get on the scoresheet again. Cian McFadden completed the scoring with a point for the home side.
