Brendan Davis Cup: Kildalkey goals down Killyon

July 17, 2019

Kildalkey's Nicky Potterton

Kildalkey 3-12

Killyon 0-15

Neighbours Kildalkey and Killyon contested this Brendan Davis cup game at Kildalkey on Monday evening in ideal conditions for hurling.

Mark Healy got the first score on the board for the Kildalkey men who made the brighter start with further points from Evan Fitzgerald Niall McNally and Paddy Conneely with 3 putting them in the ascendancy but indiscipline was a problem as Kilyon got in for 4 frees to close the gap after some silly fouling.

Niall McNally hit 2 frees to close the scoring for Kildalkey before halftime but after being 0-8 to 0-2 up at one stage they went in 0-9 to 0-6 in front instead as Killyon kept themselves in the game.

Kildalkey’s first point of the second half came from Paddy Potterton after he bust through the middle then a great move up the field found Nicky Potterton who jinked by 2 Killyon men before rifling a powerful shot past the Killyon goalie.

But this woke up Killyon who started to get on top around the field and pick off points to close the gap to a point at one stage and indeed only for some wayward shooting could have surged ahead but Kildalkey got a break and 2 quick goals won the game for the village the first from a penalty by Paddy Conneely and another by Niall McNally.

McNally then closed out the scoring with 2 late frees to seal the win on a score line of Kildalkey 3-12 Killyon 0-15.
