BFL Div 3: Clann send promotion chasers packing

Donaghmore/Ashbourne:  3-11

Clann Na nGael put in an excellent performance in their final league match to defeat promotion chasing Donaghmore/Ashbourne by 3 points in Athboy on Thursday evening.  

It was a fine evening for football and the home team got off to a great start with two early goals to lead by 2-1 to no score after 10 minutes. Thómas Doyle who returned early from his holiday to the sun, put in a fine performance on the night, scoring two goals in the first half. Michael Priest also led from the front with a great performance scoring 1-5.  

However, Clann Na nGael didn’t have it all their own way and Donaghmore/Ashbourne worked their way into the game scoring three goals of their own by half time, Clann led by three points at half time as Anthony Swaine added a fourth goal to leave the half time score at 4-4 to 3-4 in favour of Clann Na nGael.

The second half was evenly contested with only one goal being scored by Ryan McNamee from the penalty spot. Excellent performances from Kevin Tiernan at midfield and Ciaran Ryan in defense ensured that Clann Na nGael maintained their three point advantage until the final whistle.
