Clann Na nGael 3-13 Boardsmill 1-14

Clann Na nGael secured a place in the league final and promotion from Division 4 at the first time of asking by beating Boardsmill by 3-13 to 1-14 in Boardsmill on Sunday morning.

Clann started well and scored a point and then a goal early on when Tom Hanley palmed the ball to the net following good build up play and a pass from Gerry Sullivan. However Clann didn’t build on their lead and Boardsmill playing some excellent football tagged on a number of well worked points.  Boardsmill had 7 points on the board to Clann’s 1-2 and Clann needed Eoin Griffin to pull off a great save to prevent a goal.  However the goal eventually arrived and Boardsmill led by 1-9 to 1-4 at half time. Points from Rory Tuite, Tom Hanley and two from Darragh Swaine kept Clann in touch.

The Clann players used the half time team talk to refocus and started the second half in a much more determined mood.   Michael (Bishop) Priest showed his experience and led the drive to win the game by scoring 2-3 in the second half.    A strong defensive performance by Killian Sullivan, Paddy Tiernan and Rory Tuite helped to restrict Boardsmill from scoring as freely as they did in the first half. Clann dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half scoring 2-7 to 3 points to put them in a winning position. Points from Eoin Griffin, Tom Hanley, Gerry Sullivan, Darragh Swain and Cian Swain along with Michael Priests 2-3 ensured there was no way back for Boardsmill who added another two points before the final whistle.

Eoin Griffin, Michael Priest and Patrick Tiernan performed well for Clann Na nGael.
