Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-20 Seneschalstown 2-16

Donaghmore Ashbourne and Seneschalstown played out an enthralling non stop league game where the hosts were pushed all the way to the end by a dogged Seneschalstown team.

Donagh O'Donnell had the ball in the visitors net within a minute of the start but Seneschalstown replied with a point of their own immediately. Another attack for the visitors yielded a penalty which was well struck but went wide of the target. Luke Wilson who was dangerous throughout the game, pointed on 5 minutes and then a succession of frees for Seneschalstown were easily dispatched on 6th, 9th, 13th and 14th minutes. Luke Wilson pointed a free for the hosts and Seneschalstown responded with a point go ahead in the game again. Faolan Smith who was introduced for Kevin Lanigan pointed a free and it too was cancelled out. Kevin Fenton scored a brace of points either side of another free and a point from play for the visitors. Just on the stroke of half time Seneschalstown got another free which was moved in by the referee again and was easily dispatched. Donaghmore Ashbourne while played fast flowing football were being punished for sloppy tackling and needed to sharpen up in the second half. Half time score 1.05 to 0.10.

Donaghmore Ashbourne came out in the second half and conceded the first point to a quick Seneschalstown move but fired off 4 points in a row between the 32nd and 36th minutes go ahead, 2 from Faolan Smith and one each from Donagh O'Donnell and Kevin Fenton. Seneschalstown pointed to level the game again but 4 more points, a brace each from Faolan Smith and Cathal Field put Donaghmore Ashbourne in control of the game. Then came the move of the night, Gareth Deery started play from corner back and followed the attack to find himself on the end of the through ball where he finished to the net expertly. Seneschalstown didn't roll over too easily, they pointed immediately and then fired to the net to narrow the gap to 3 points. Luke Wilson pointed and it was immediately cancelled out on 47 minutes. Luke scored another and it was followed by another Faolan Smith point and then Donagh O'Donnell also pointed. Seneschalstown replied with a goal when a high ball was floated in and flicked to the net. Matt Crumlish raced through on 54 minutes and his goal effort was parried over the bar by the keeper. Seneschalstown replied with a point before Faolan Smith and Shane Rea scored points on the 57th and 58th minutes. Seneschalstown launched a final attack and managed to get another point but it was too late to do any more. A feature of the second half for the home side was the fast flowing football and resolute defending while not giving away frees. The score taking from both side was terrific to watch and was an entertaining game for the neutral.
