Simonstown Gaels 3-16 Trim 3-16

This Junior B championship game was played in beautiful summer like conditions in Walterstown GFC.

The Gaels were looking for 2 out of 2 after an impressive win vs Ashbourne on the 13th of April. The Navan men opened the scoring through Chris O'Neill and a brilliant 45 by Michael Brennan. Brennan's placed kicking was an integral part of Simonstown's success. Edward Nash got his first point in Senior football and added to his tally shortly after. Nash went on a lung bursting run and exchanged a hand pass with Seamus Kenny. Kenny returned the hand pass and Nash rifled his shot past the helpless Trim keeper. Simonstown did have numerous purple patches in the game and would have trailed at half time but for the heroics of Gary Lynch in the goals. Lynch made numerous point blank saves and Trim squandered and regretted these missed opportunities. Andrew Burlingham got a sensational score on the stroke of half time turning his marker on a sixpence. The score at half time was Simonstown 1-9 (12) 1-5 (8)

The second half began and Trim were in a buoyant mood. Trim's wasted chances in the first half were erased with 2 goals in the first 10 minutes of the half. Simonstown now only had a 1 point lead and the momentum was with Trim. Trim added to the 2 goal start with 3 unanswered points. Points from Shane McEnery and Micky Brennan leveled up the scores with 12 minutes remaining. The Gaels got back into the lead when Chris O'Neill placed the ball well past the Trim stopper. Trim responded well and led by 3 going into injury time. Micky Brennan played an inspirational pass into Eoghan Gough, Gough found himself one on one with the kepper but his effort was blocked with a foot. This resulted in a penalty. Up stepped Micky Brennan, with nerves of steel, his effort was inch perfect. This proved to be the last kick of the game and the scoreline finished Simonstown 3-16 Trim 3-16
