Castletown 2-12 Longwood 0-08
Castletown forfeited home advantage for this game and took two more vital points in their quest for a swift return to division 2. This was Castletowns fifth victory in a row in Division 3 of the league and this win has given them the outright lead in the division with this 10 point win in Longwood.
The very strong wind that was blowing across the pitch was accompanied by a downpour at the start of the first half.
The home team drew first blood 2 minutes in then Declan Cribbin opened Castletowns account. Longwood scored two in a row before Declan Cribbin scored his second point with 10 minutes gone in the game. Longwood increased their lead scoring two points in a row to lead 0-05 to 0-02 at the quarter hour mark. This would be the last time Castletown we’re behind for the rest of the game as a point from Tommy Smith and 2 from Kevin Ross on left it all square with 5 minutes to play till half time. In the 26th minute a shot from Damien Ginnitty came off the post and hit a Longwood defender and ended up in his own net followed on by a point from Shane Hoey in the same minute was the start of Castletowns dominance. With halftime fast approaching Tommy Smith popped over a point which left the eventual winners 1-07 to 0-05 up at halftime.
Barry Smith opened the second half scoring with a point before Kevin Ross scored a goal on 36 minutes to put the tie to bed even at that early stage. Points from Barry Smith and Darren Finney left Castletown 11 points clear with 10 minutes gone in the second half. Longwood scored their first point of the second period 15 minutes left in the game. Shane Hoey on substitute Mark Kelly got Castletowns lay two scores. Longwood added 2 points to the other one they scored in the second half to leave the final score Castletown 2-12 to Longwood 0-08.
Castletown now face Moynalty in Round 6 on the weekend of March 23rd.
