Kilbride 1-8 Dunboyne 3-7
Kilbride headed to the Lion’s den on Saturday afternoon somewhat fearful of what Division 2 Minor League might bring. This was the reward for a successful U16 Div 3 campaign last Spring.
90 minutes later they headed home having missed an opportunity to take the scalp of one of the big clubs in Meath football.
Goals win games and unfortunately Kilbride lost this battle on a 3 v 1 scoreline.
The game started brightly for Kilbride however, some poor finishing meant that they did not turn possession into scores. Dunboyne struck for two goals midway through the first half and led 2-5 v 3 points at the break.
Things looked ominous for the green and red, 8 points down and facing into the wind. As usual with Kilbride, the management could not turn to the bench because the 15 fit and available players were on the field. This included only 3 full age minors. So the 15 brave soldiers headed back onto the field determined not to have anyone slagging them during maths on Monday morning.
They took the game to Dunboyne with the passion that we expect from these lads . The score was down to 3 points with 10 minutes to go. Kilbride missed a couple of frees and then conceded a goal against the run of play and the chance of a great victory went with it.
