December 11, 2018

Jason Plunkett County Board Development Officer and Chairman Peter O'Halloran present the Club Grounds of the Year Award to Tony Casserly (Chairman) and DJ Ball (Secretary) of St Ultan's

Meath County Board announced last Monday,3rd, that St Ultans’ pitch, Sean Newman Park, is the best GAA facility and grounds in the county for 2018.

This accolade is the culmination of much hard work and fundraising dating back to the club’s successful Strictly come dancing in 2015. Since then the club have redeveloped the club rooms to allow for two extra changing rooms, a fully equipped gym upstairs, a new kitchen and meeting area. On the field a new fence has been erected around the pitch, allowing for more parking and viewing space. Finally, the astro-turf has been recently re-furbished.

According to St Ultans Secretary, DJ Ball, “It’s a great honour for the club to get this award. It’s great recognition for all the hard work that’s been put in by our committee, the local area and our members. Our Chairman Tony Casserly has been the driving force behind all this development and deserves great credit. We don’t want to stand still though. We’re currently organising our next large-scale fundraiser that will fund future developments. With a strong focus on our underage structures.”

Sean Newman Park was officially opened in 2006 by then County Board Chairman Brendan Dempsey. It’s home to St Ultans GFC, St Ultans Ladies and St Ultans/Cortown Gaels. The highlight for the facility in 2018 was hosting games in the u14 National Feile.

St Ultans GFC will holding their next fundraiser on February 9th in the Knightsbrook Hotel when Europe’s number 1 Garth Brook’s band will visit. Trevor Smith and Friends in Low Places will hopefully give members and non-members a great night to remember.
