Ratoath had five points to spare over Na Brideoga

Ratoath 4-4 Na Brideoga 0-11

Padraig Pearses Gaa club, Clooneen Roscommon was the venue for this All Ireland Junior B semi final clash.

Weather conditions were near perfect for the game and despite a second half siege from Na Brideoga, Ratoath maintained their lead to come out worthy winners at the final whistle.

Na Brideoga opened the scoreboard with a point from a free in the 2nd minute. Ratoath pushed forward for the next 5 minutes but shot 3 wides before the Mayo sides Orna Hession sent over another point. It would be 13 minutes before Ratoath’s Sinéad Beagan registered their first point from a free after a foul on Eimear Griffiths. Fiona McNerney followed with a fine point from play and after Niamh McLoughlins shot on goal was saved in the 19th minute Áine McNerney was there to gather the clearance and split the posts to put Ratoath 0-3 to 0-2 ahead. Sinead Beagan’s 20 meter free floated high and to the back of the net in the 19th minute, similar to that of the county final replay , to give Ratoath a 4 point lead. Meabh Delaney and Eimear Harrison followed up with points for Na Brídeaga but with a minute to go in normal time Fiona McNerney rattled the net with an excellent goal after a pass from Eimear Griffiths and the Ratoath side went in with a 5 point lead at half time.

Na Brídeaga showed great fight in the second half and Meabh Delaney registered 2 points from 45’s in the first 5 minutes. Ratoath’s Emma McGill was working tirelessly at midfield and was unlucky to have her goal shot blocked after soloing through the defence, however Anna Brannigan’s solo effort was rewarded with a point shortly after and Eimear Griffiths found the net 9 minutes in after an excellent pass from Áine McNerney. Áine’s younger sister Fiona shot home her second goal shortly after and Ratoath looked secure with a 10 point lead after 12 minutes. The Mayo side were not giving up however and piled on the pressure for the remainder of the second half but despite their dominance it wasn’t translated to the scoreboard. Meabh Delaney was on top form and registered the next 5 points from placed balls but Ratoath’s back 6 dug deep under pressure and Ratoath held on to a 5 point lead and breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle.
