Gearoid Rennicks St Ultans

Corn Na Boinne 1st Round
Sunday 16th September Sean Newman Park

St Ultans 1-19 Bective 2-12

Bective started well and raced into an early eight point lead courtesy of 2 goals and 3 points to an Eoin Kavanagh free after wing back Martin Dolan was fouled. The first goal was a powerful strike and the 2nd was when the Bective attackers reacted quickest after an excellent save from Keith Hennessy.

Ultans settled with 3 scores a free each from Eoin Kavanagh and Gearóid Rennicks and a point on the run from Rennicks. Bective scored three in row to restore the eight point lead. Ultans finished the half strongly and the key score of the game was a well finished Cian Rennicks goal after good work from Emmet Costello.

Paul Murray scored the first of his four points to narrow the gap to four at the break.

Padraig Coyle's half time talk had the desired effect and Ultans kicked seven of the next eight points from Gearóid Rennicks (3), Paul Murray (2), an excellent Paidin Boggins score and an Eoin Kavanagh 45. Bective responded with two points to level proceedings again but five points all from play from Murray, Boggins, Kevin Galligan (2) and Barry Brady left the gap at 5.

Some resolute defending and a good save from Cian Farnan kept Ultans in control.  Bective rallied late on but points from Gearóid Rennicks and Darren Mallon left the margin of victory at four points to the men in Green and Black. Next Up from Ultan's is a relegation playoff game v Castletown on the 24th Sept in Carlanstown
