JFC B: Dixon leads the way for Boardsmill

Evan Dixon is about to gain possession for Boardsmill during the Meath Junior B FC game against St Marys in Moynalvey

Boardsmill 2-16  St Mary's 2-6

Boardsmill travelled to Moynalvey on Sunday morning to contest the 2nd round of the JBFC against St Mary's and having lost to at Mary's in the league 4 weeks previous it was very much a winner takes all to progress in the championship.

Both teams lost their opening rounds. The Mill who looked very comfortable in the opening ten minutes controlling all the play and jumping into a 4 point lead through sharpshooter Evan Dixon (2), Stevie Gibbons jnr and veteran Keith Hamilton. St Mary's kicked into gear and registered 1-1 in the next few minutes, the goal coming from the penalty spot.

The outstanding Evan Dixon registered his 3rd point to push the Boardsmill back in front. The winners tagged on scores through Hamilton and Danny Dixon to go in at the break 0-7 to 1-3 ahead.

Within minutes of the start of the second half Dixon had the ball in the Marys net to open up a four point lead. Gibbons extended the lead with the next two points

Boardsmill were in control now.  James Durkin and Cathal Wall raised white flags before wing back Thomas Leonard found the net with a delightful chip.c

A  flurry of St. Marys points midway through the half asked some questions but the Mill kicked on once more. Evan Dixon, Danny Dixon and Hamilton added points to leave it 2-16 to 1-6 coming into injury time. Mary's got a late consolation goal just on the sound of the final whistle.

Boardsmill can look forward to the next round against Kilbride with the winners taking top spot in the group.

It was Boardsmills best performance to date an will be happy to get a win after a poor performance in their opening round against Slane but their focus for the mean time will turn to Dunderry in the SHC who are their opposition this coming Saturday!
