B FL Div 3: Rathkenny too strong for Curraha

Curraha 2-09 Rathkenny 4-15

Both teams started this Div 3BFL encounter with 13 men before it returned to 15 after the home side got the likes of David Dunne and Sean Prendeville back from retirement for his clash.

It was the away side that opened the scoring before first team player Jack O'Connor opened the scoring for the Curraha men. Points were traded numerous times with scores coming from Andrew Battersby, Andrew Coyle, O'Connor and Robbie Mooney and with ten minutes remaining in the opening half it stood at 0-05 apiece. Another free from O'Connor had the sides level for the sixth time but from the resulting kick out Curraha were to gain possession and work a goal chance which was saved first time around but Prendeville was on hand to Xabi Alonso style finish to the net. Unfortunately, this lead didn't last for long as the Rathkenny men raised the green flag themselves. A late Dunne point had the home side in front in what was a close opening 30 minutes.

A Rathkenny free had the sides level for the 8th time before Mooney added his second of the game to get his side back in front. Curraha then had the perfect chance to extend their lead even further only for a John Mangan goal to be disallowed while soon after the fantastic Rathkenny keeper kept out another golden opportunity.  This gave the away side great hope and they soon added their second goal and they never looked back as Curraha would only add on 1-01 thanks to Dunne and a point from Alan O'Connor. This was very short of what the Rathkenny men added as they finished with 4-15 with the experienced Donal Curtis kicking some fine scores off his left.
