Simonstown warm up before their JFC B clash with St Pats in Slane

Simonstown Gaels 2-19 St Patrick's  1-7

Already this game, played in Slane, felt like a must win for the Simonstown Junior Bs. The Gaels knew that a slow start like the last day against Na Fianna would be indefensible.

Simonstown began very well with Seán Conlon catching from the throw up and scoring from his ensuing run. Conlon showed great powerful running and strength to evade the tackles of the St. Pats defenders. Kyle McEvoy impressed throughout and entered the score sheet after just 4 minutes. McEvoy would later display his skill sets by scoring an outrageous effort from near the sideline. The second team were delighted to have Andy Kearney after his break from first and second team football and he did not disappoint. Kearney's trickery and accuracy were excellent troughout the match and he recorded 4 points in the first half. James Heaney was a superb outlet in the full forward line and he showed great composure to score his goal from close range. Pats found it difficult to score due to a stiff breeze and the tenacious defending by Robbie Quinn, Barry Fox and Colin Wickham. Ben Hoey was very clinical in the first half from the dead ball and he also scored a superb point from distance in the 25th minute. The Navan men effectivly ended the game as a contest in the last 10 minutes of the half with a flurry of scores. The Gaels scored 2-6 unanswered in this dominant period and this left the scoreline at half time Simonstown 2-11 St Pats 0-4.

The Gaels played against a stiff breeze in the second half and found it more difficult to play their free flowing football. Dean Curran and Shane McHugh entered the scoresheet in the opening moments of the second half. Andy Kearney added 3 more points and Kyle McEvoy got the score of the match. The Gaels will be happy with the performances of the young players such as Michael Gavin, Kyle McEvoy, Sean Conlon, Shane T. Gallagher and  the introduction of Shane Kavanagh and Shane McEnery from the bench. Simonstown Junior Bs now have a break for 2 month from championship football but they will be back in action soon in the B League Division 1.
