FL Div 4: Points win it for Drumconrath

March 24, 2018

Drumconrath's Wayne Reilly gains possession

Drumconrath 0-15 Boardsmill 2-8

On probably one one the nicest days in recent weeks Drumconrath came away with both points in a hard fought win over the home side in the back pitch in Boardsmill om Saturday evening.

Drums welcomed back Wayne Reilly and Derek Duff for the 1st time this year and that was important as they suffered a blow after only a minute when top scorer Daniel Byrne went off injured when he mishit a 45 and hurt himself.

His replacement Derek Duff notched the visitors 1st score within seconds of his introduction which cancelled out an earlier Keith Hamilton free by the home side. Points from Pado Farrelly and a long distance free from Reilly put Drums ahead as Boardsmill first narrowed the gap to a point and then a mix up in the Drums defense let a mishit free roll over the line and put the home side ahead 1.2 to 0-3.
Stephan Crosby pointed from play but Boardsmill had a purple patch and 4 points from them seen a 5 point lead open up. Drumconrath finished the half well as Tomas Conlon pointed 3 times in 4 minutes to leave the half time score Drums 0-7 The Mill 1-6

Drumconrath played really well in the 3rd quarter and 6 points without reply from Farrelly (3) along with Reilly and Crosby with Gavin Finnegan also getting into the act which had the visitors 4 points ahead with 10 minutes left as Boardsmill looked in trouble but a tap in goal on 52 minutes revived the home side as Hamilton pointed a free to level the game.

Chris Tighe pushed Drumconrath ahead but Hamilton hit a fine point from play to level the game again with 57 minutes gone. Drumconrath missed some scoreable chances but with Crosby dominating around the middle and after sustained pressure it took an injury time that Wayne Reilly pointed a 40m free to win the game. Boardsmill had one further attack but Drumconrath defended well and cleared there lines as the full time whistle sounded
