Simonstown 0-13 Syddan 0-8
Remarkably this was Simonstown's first game of the year so we can forgive them for their slow start to the first half. It was Simonstown who registered the first score of the game coming from the experienced Ciaran Reilly. Andrew Burlingham than quickly added to the tally with an excellent point from near the sideline. The Gaels looked in supreme control but Syddan fought back and controlled possession and territory for the remaining 15 minutes. In truth Syddan's lead should have been more at half time but for some fine defending from Shane Kavanagh, Mick Fitzpatrick and Oisin Lavin Kelly. The score at half time was Simonstown 0-2 Syddan 0-4
Simonstown started the second half remarkably well and Aaron O'Connell was particularly impressive with his lung bursting runs forward from the half back line. Séan Gough was a superb outlet for kick outs and was the link player for many of Simonstown's attacks. The pace and legs of Simonstown forward line enabled the Gaels to latch on scores from a variety of people. One such person was Shane McHugh who showed his range of skills with some great passing, fielding and scoring. A points from sub Keith Brady and a super score by Stephen Dillon widened the margin and made it difficult for Syddan to come back. Shane McEnery had a very good second half scoring 2 points from play. The Gaels played tremendously well in the second half and the back line was rewarded with a well deserved clean sheet. Full time score Simonstown 0-13 Oldcastle 0-8
