St Cuthbert's to change name to St Ultans/Cortown Gaels

December 13, 2017

The St Cuthberts U8 squad

Following discussions between St Ultans GFC and Cortown GFC both clubs have agreed to change the name of our underage team to St Ultans/Cortown Gaels. This new arrangement, to which the clubs are committed to indefinitely (with a minimum target of 20 years), will cover all teams and ages, from under six to - the newly formed - under 20.

Administration of the underage will be in accordance with current GAA guidelines. With an underage committee being drawn from the adult clubs and parents/mentors shall be delegated to manage underage activities.

In addition to a name change the colours will also change to green jerseys, white shorts and green socks. However, our under 6s, 8s and 10s will continue to wear black and amber for two years, transitioning to the new colours over that time.

It is important to note that there will be no change with regard to quality of service and resources provided to the underage GAA in our local area. We will continue to cater for all our children.

We are absolutely committed to providing a well-structured, enjoyable, well-resourced environment for all our children to play GAA.

In the current climate of high drop off rates in the GAA, in particular 16 - 20 age group ,we hope to put plans in place to encourage all our children to continue playing GAA throughout their teens and then on to adult football with St Ultans GFC and Cortown GFC.

The contribution of parents, guardians, family members, friends and past players will continue to be essential and you are encouraged to get involved with St Ultans/Cortown Gaels.

If you have any questions you wish to ask either club, please come to our open evening being held in Cortown Hall on Friday the 15th of December. At least one representative from each club will be there to take your questions from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. We welcome as many parents as possible to come down throughout the evening.

For those who can't make this meeting we will provide further information as the details are finalised.
We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Merry Christmas from everyone in St Ultans GFC and Cortown GFC.
