TV3 News reports that Conor Mortimer has left the squad ahead of Sunday's Connacht Final. That is bad news if it's true. Conor has a lot to offer.

He obviously thinks he one of the top six forwards in Mayo at present. James Horan & Co dont and personally i would agree with them. But good luck to him.

The Mayo forward line isn't their strongest line the Mort should be starting however if he's walked before a big game it's unlikely he'll ever play for Mayo again.

The timing of his retirement speaks volumes about his ego and selfishnish levels. He should have waited til the season was over.

Not the end of the world folks.. If his head is not right then he's no good to us... Opportunity for others to step up (freeman Varley conroy).. He was great against the poor and middlin sides but struggled against the top teams.. Even in the league final v cork when he couldn't win his own ball.. Looks like the end for him so all the best and thanks for the many years service.. And of course micheal jackson..
Up mayo

well......if he has left because he was not included in the line up then it is very poor and selfish form from conor. I thought he had grown up in the last few years. This type of news and the circus that will follow is no use to mayo in the build up to sunday's final and will be music to the sligo team's ears.
Conor is our all time top point scorer and while has not always done it on the big stage, is one of the few natural forward we have. There will be no back for him now however, walking out on connacht final week. Hopefully a few others can step up now and take their chance.

Disaster. Only Mayo could do this, lose their best player before a final. He is in the top 6 in Ireland let alone Mayo, an All-Star and our highest scorer of all time. I had high hopes for this team but am very disapointed at this news. If Sligo beat us Horan is finished..Surley someone can do something to reverse this.

Only Mayo could do this twice, i don't care about the ins and outs, Mac in 08 and now Conor in 12.
Horan should of been able to sort this out.

this is the last ting Mayo needed in the build-up to the final, could prove an unwanted distraction.. wouldn't suprise me if he sought an inter-county transfer like SJ, both went DCU together, two super players and would grace most county teams...

Mayo's 2 startim corner forwards don't exactly inspire confidence and our back up is conroy (freeman is a ff & not a cf). With our without Mort we're goin to struggle to get enough scores unless major changes made to ff line.

Without being part of the team or management setup it's hard to understand the internal dynamic and what has transpired on the training field, however without a doubt Connor has been a good servant to the Mayo cause. Nevertheless as part of a panel you need to think of the teaml. He should have waited until after Sunday or until end of the season. Imagine if other members of the team took this approach? The Manager must make decisions and we must support James in his selection.

Shocked at this news.
One of the greatest forwards to wear the Green and Red. Hopefully he'll be back for you's soon enough and best of luck for Sunday.

Bring "The Mort "Back He is too good a player to loose at this stage of his career, we should protest here and at the final to have him brought back to panel. Remember C Mcdonald.

Conor Mortimor has made a great contribution to Mayo football but it has always been on his terms. But in my opinion it was obvious from the league final and other previous finals that Mort cant deliver when the going gets tough. He cant win his own ball or get scores in tight games. Horan had to make changes to the full forwars line and he was 100% right. It is part of any football managers job to pick his own team. James Horan is putting Mayo first and egos second. He has already dropped Peader Gardiner, Richie Feeney, Michael Conroy, Enda Varley, Ronan McGarrity and Barry Moran none of these went off in a huff like a spoilt child. The above players dug deep and stuck with their team mates. Remember this Conor Mortimor was only dropped from the team not from the panel he has chosen to walk. Perhaps now he can move in with his mate Sheanie Johnson.

County board statement: We would also like to state the the door is always open for any player who is showing the skills, commitment, ability, and passion for Mayo G.A.A. now and in the future.
That's a bit of a joke in fairness, considering certain players have been left of the panel or not invited to rejoin. A certain man from crossmolina is still good enough in my opinion
