Collins, Tom

July 01, 2008
GAA folk attached to Crossmolina Deel Rovers, especially the more senior members ol the North Mayo outfit, will have been saddened to hear of the sudden death of former player Tom Collins. A native of Croghan, near Boyle in County Roscommon, he passed away on Tuesday, June 24 and was buried last Friday in Killapogue Cemetery. A member of Roscommon's AllIreland winning squad of 1944, the second year of a successful double, Tom worked in Browns Grocery (now Kevin Loftus Drapers) in Crossmolina around that time and gave outstanding service to the local Deel Rovers club. Playing as a wing-back, he also won back to back Connacht SFC medals in 1946 and 1947. Courtesy of the Western People 1/07/2008
