The Late Paddy Cawley
The death occurred suddenly on Sunday evening, July 15, at his residence of Paddy Cawley, Errew, Castlehill, Ballina. His remains were removed from his home to St. Tiernans Church for Requiem Mass with burial afterwards in Crossmolina cemetery.
Paddy is survived by his wife Mary, son Padraig daughter Maeve, brother Mickey (Rathnamagh), sisters Rev Sr Chris (Glasgow), Kathleen Lacey (Melbourne), Ann Brogan (Canterbury), Barbara Flynn (Knockaillian) and Vera Conway (Sligo), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, mother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relations, neighbours, and many friends.
The sudden death of Paddy had so many virtues that it would be impossible to even try to document them here. He was first and foremost a great family man magnificent husband to Mary and a wonderful father to Maeve and Padraig. He respected others and others respected him. He knew no other way because that's how he was brought up.
Sport was a biding passion of his, particularly Gaelic Football, he loved his club Deel Rovers which he was a member of all his life, Presentation to Mr and M McGarry's retirement fun as a player in the late 60s early 70s Executive Committee. Treasurer for three years 2002 to 2004, and assistant Treasurer at the time of his death.
On Saturday night he was out as usual with his lotto team. A . great lover of drama, and was a member of Crossmolina Dramatic Society for many years appearing in a number of plays.
Badminton was another great love of his and he was also a member of the Agricultural Show Committee. Paddy was on the Pastoral Council Church Restoration committee who are at present drawing up plans to restore St Tiernan's Church.
Paddy loved nothing better than a quiet day fishing on his beloved Lough Conn. The huge crowds that called to house attended the removal and funeral Mass was testimonial of the high regard so many people had for Paddy.
A guard of honour was formed by the GAA club show committee, badminton club and the fishing club.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mary, daughter Maeve and son Padraig, brother, sisters, relations and friends. May he rest in peace.
