The late Tom Fahy, Dublin and Killaloe On Monday, November 28th, Tom Fahy, Dromcondra, Dublin and formerly of Thomas Street, Killaloe died, following a long illness borne with great faith and dignity, in the care of the staff at Dublin's Mater Hospital. Eldest son of the late Margaret and Thomas Fahy, Tom attended Ballina National School where his mother taught for many years. On completing Second Level Education, Tom spent some years farming with is father at Kilnadeema, Loughrea before preparing for the entrance exam for the Garda Siochana. Having secured top place in the examination, Tom embarked on his training at the Depot in Phoenix Park and on qualifying, served with the Force in the North Dublin City area. HE quickly advanced to the rank of Sergeant, a position he held at Fitzgibbon Station up to his retirement. A keen sportsman, he was actively involved with the Smith O'Brien and Kilnadeema hurling clubs in his early years and was also a member of the old Killaloe-Ballina Boxing Club of the 1940s. Tom was predeceased by his son Anthony in 1993 and by his sister Myra Malone in 1995. Members of the Gardai led the funeral cortege in which Tom's coffin was draped in the tricolour, to the Church of St Paul of the Cross, Mount Argus. On Wednesday, following Requiem Mass, Tom was laid to rest in Fingal Cemetery. His brother John and John's wife Carmel, paid a deeply moving and fitting musical tribute to Tom during Requiem Mass. Sympathy is extended to Tom's wife Joan; his daughters Siobhan and Mairead; his siblings Rita and John; his grandchildren, extended family, relatives and friends. 28 November 2005
