The late Manny Coyne Manny Coyne of Church Hill, Clifden died at his home last Friday, December 23rd. He was 63 years and he had been ill for some time. Many was known throughout Connemara and further afield. In his earlier years he worked with the Veterinary Practice of Peadar O Scannaill and he later spent many years with Telecom. In both of these jobs he travelled the length and breadth of Connemara. When he took early recruitment from Telecom, he went into the Taxi business and much of his work entailed bringing people to the hospitals and clinics in Galway, where he also became a well known figure. He continued that work until about a year ago when he was hit by illness. Manny was born in Market Street in Clifden, one of a family of six. With his friendly nature and his ready wit he came to know people all over Connemara. He was also an enthusiastic man for the horse races and he travelled to Cheltenham on occasions as well as to race meetings all over the country. Manny had a huge funeral in Clifden on Monday, with Mass being Concelebrated at 3 p.m. by four priests: Very Rev. Fr. James Ronayne PP, Clifden; Very Rev. Fr. Conal Eustace, President St. Jarlath's College; Fr. Raymond Flaherty of Claddaghduff and Very Rev. Fr. John O'Dwyer, PP, Oranmore. The funeral took place to Ardbeare Cemetery. Manny Coyne leaves his wife, Ann - Ann Flatley from Shrule originally, as well as a daughter, Joanna (Oranmore) and three sons, Tony (Clifden), Paul (Dublin) and Kenneth (America). He is also survived by a sister, Mary Hogan, who travelled from England for the funeral, and by a brother James, in New Zealand.
