The Late Ger O'Keefe
The death has taken place of Ger O'Keefe, Lower James Street, Claremorris, in the loving care of doctors, nurses and staff of the Coronary Care Unit, Connolly Hospital, Dublin. He is sadly missed by his wife Geraldine, sons Adrian and Conor and his daughter Rosemary, brothers, sisters, nieces, family, relatives and friends.
His remains were removed from St Colman's cemetery to St Colman's Church and burial took place to St Colman's cemetery on Sunday following 12 O'Clock Mass.
Ger O'Keefe was a member of an old established family in Claremorris, and was very popular and highly regarded in the community. He worked in the Air Corps in Dublin in his youth before returning to work with Baxter in Castlebar. He was employed locally before becoming ill in the recent past. He was a fine footballer in his youth, having played with Claremorris and the Mayo county team, being a member of the panel that was beaten by Dublin after a replay in the All-Ireland semi final of 1955.
Ger had a lovely even temperament and was a great story teller, often relating great tales of times gone by in Claremorris. He was a great character and had a word for everyone. He will be sadly missed by the many people that knew him but his wife
Geraldine and family will miss him most of all.
