The Late Kathy Feeney The death has taken place after a short illness at Mayo General Hospital of Kathy Feeney, a cherished mother and grandmother who made her own unique contribution to the enhancement of the lives of those she met on her journey through life. Formally Kathy Coyne, she was married to former Ballintubber footballer, Dick Feeney and the couple were blessed with six children. Born into an era in Irish rural life when the wheels of farming activity were turned by manual labour, Kathy learned that the goals in life were achieved by hard work, dedication and commitment. She is a very resourceful person blessed with fine homemaking talents. Both inside and outside her home she worked diligently as she helped with he milking of the cows and baking some beautiful homemade bread, scones and tarts. She welcomed the numerous developments in her native parish especially the developments in and around her local Ballintubber Abbey. With all of her family closely involved with Gaelic football she was a great supporter of her local G.A.A club and the Mayo senior team. Her clothes line full of freshly washed Ballintubber football jerseys bore testimony to Kathy's love of her native club. During her leisure time she enjoyed reading books and papers, the regular games of cards in her home and in later years in Kate Kelly's Lounge, Ballintubber, each Thursday night. A caring and devoted mother, wife, grandmother and provider for all her family she passed on to her family the christian gifts of love, generosity and kindness. In her heart she held a special place for her nineteen grandchildren as she enjoyed the occasions when they came to visit her in her home. On those occasions she loved to share with them her wealth of knowledge and experiences of her long journey through life. Her passing has removed from the local community a woman, whose positive contribution to the development and enhancement of life in her native place will be remembered by many in the years ahead. She was predeceased by her husband, Dick, seventeen years ago. Her funeral took place from Mayo General Hospital to Ballintubber Abbey where Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Frank Fahey, Fr.Pat Donnellan, Fr. Michael Gormally, Fr. Tommy Towey, Fr. Chas Gutherie and Fr. Michael Murphy. After mass she was laid to rest at the local cemetery. During the funeral Mass the lesson was read by her daughter Sheila and Ger Lohan. The gifts for the offertory procession were carried to the altar by her daughters Mary and Frances. She is survived by her sons, Sean, Christy (Ballintubber) and Ger, (Castlebar) daughters, Mary (Wales), Frances, Manulla (Castlebar), Sheila (Sussex, England), sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren and numerous other relatives. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Courtesy of the Mayo News, May, 2004.
