The Late T.J. Farragher

THE Claremorris and Garrymore communities were deeply shocked as news of the sudden death of T.J. Farragher spread around the South Mayo region, writes Michael Commins.

T.J. (56), a biology teacher at St. Colman's College since the early 1970s, took ill and died suddenly at his home in Logatemple, Claremorris.
He had played 18 rounds of golf earlier in the day at the local golf course.

A native of Gardenfield and a member or a well known Garrymore footballing family, T.J. won several county medals with his home club and also played league and championship with Mayo.

He was a selector with the Mayo minor team managed by Austin Garvin that won the All-Ireland Final in 1971. His brother Ger was a member of that team.

A prominent golfer, T.J. was a former captain of Claremorris Golf Club and was the current captain of the Jimmy Bruen Shield team at the club where he was a leading officer.

In St. Colman's College, he was recognised as a first class biology teacher and the achievements of his students over the years spoke volumes for his mastery of the biology curriculum.

T.J., who was predeceased by his father Murty and by his brother Frank (44) who died tragically in a car accident in Switzerland five years ago, is deeply regretted by his wife Geraldine (nee O'Hara from Foxford), daughters Lydia, Sarah and Anna, his mother Bridie, brothers Murt, Norman and Ger, and sisters Deirdre, Valerie and Barbara, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
