Mayo hurling manager JP Coen has hailed the impact made by new coach Liam Donohue.

The former Galway goalkeeper has been added to the management team as Mayo prepare for the NHL Division 2B opener against Donegal on Sunday.

Coen told the Western People that the addition of the former Clarinbridge man is a huge boost to their preparations.

"Liam is a big addition. We met him during the summer and had a few chats to explain to him what we wanted to do. He liked what we were about, and since he came in the lads have warmed to him. They like what he's doing so things are working well," said Donohue.

Coen will have to plan without a number of players who have retired but that has been offset by the return of the likes of Cathal Freeman, Ciaran Charlton and Pa Connell.
