Gaughan, Seamus

January 20, 2014
The death took place last week of Seamus Gaughan, Knockmore, following an illness. His funeral took place to Knockmore Church on Saturday evening last, January 11. His Requiem Mass was celebrated on Sunday with his burial taking place afterwards in Ballinahaglish cemetery. The large crowds that were in attendance on both days of his funeral was evidence of the high regard that Seamus was held in the community. In the homily Fr Michael Flynn paid many tributes to Seamus. He spoke of his dedication to his weekly Mass and the sacraments, he spoke of his kindness and concern for all he met.
Seamus worked for over 30 years in Corroy factor before becoming the local rate collector. He had a great interest in sport and attended local GAA matches on a regular basis while, in earlier years he played club football with Foxford GAA club. He was also a great handballer and squash player, and took part in various competitions. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening in more recent years. He too was a great neighbour and friend and was highly regarded by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a great husband and father and was deeply saddened when his wife, Delia, passed away in 2001, but was blessed to have the love and company of his daughter, Barbara; grandchildren and son-in-law Martin, who helped him through those dark days. His passing has left an empty space in his home and native village Knockmore.
We join in extending our deepest sympathy to his daughter Barbara, grandchildren, son-in-law Martin, his brother Dominic, cousins, friends and neighbours.
