The death has taken place recently of Mr. Christopher O'Toole of Churchview Nursing Home, Cabra, Dublin and Inishturk Island. He passed away in the Mater Hospital in the loving care of the nursing medical and pastoral staff. Cristy was born and reared on Inishturk Island, Co. Mayo to Peter and Ellen O'Toole, the youngest of eight children, four boys and girls. He is well remembered in Louisburgh where he attended school and is particularly remembered for his prowess on the gaelic football field. His love of sport of all kinds stayed with him all his life and his radio was his best companion when unfortunately his sight left him in his early adulthood. Prior to this happening he had a variety of work experiences including bus conductor and operator in the telephone exchange in Dublin. He spent some time studying for the priesthood in Scotland and Carlow but as his sight weakened he had to forego his studies. Gentleness and spirituality defined Cristy. He never forgot his roots in Inishturk and remembered all the people and details of island life vividly. He was loving laid to rest in his beloved island and is sadly missed by all his family and all who he was in contact with. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
