Kelly, Padraic

August 06, 2013
The death took place last week of Padraic Kelly, Mayfield, Claremoms, and formerly of Boleybeg, Taugheen. He was 51 and had been coping with declining health for some time. Padraic was one of a family of six, four sons and two daughters, born to Patsy and Kathleen Kelly in Taugheen. He married Catherine Peyton from Hollymount and they raised a family of five, four sons and one daughter.
Padraic was a good tradesman and was associated with the building and roofing business. He was able to turn his hand to various other trades as well and was a man who worked hard over the years.

A great GAA supporter, Padraic followed Carramore in his young years and later, when he and Catherine resided in Hollymount, their young family became involved with St Gerard's, the underage combination team of Hollymount and Carramore which operated for several years before the recent overall amalgamation. He loved football and was a regular at many of the Mayo games over the years.
Padraic also enjoyed a regular game of 25 with friends and he always felt so much at ease and at home in the company of the people with whom he grew up and shared such an easy rapport.

The family moved to Mayfield some years ago and quickly settled into life in the Claremoms area. A quiet-natured and unassuming gentleman, Padraic was highly regarded by all who knew him. He fought his battle with illness with characteristic courage and fortitude to the end.

The very large attendances at the funeral ceremonies reflected the special esteem in which he was held throughout the community. Removal took place from Gilligan's Funeral Home to Taugheen Church with interment in Roundfort Cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr James Quinn.

Padraic is survived by his wife Catherine, sons Conor, Damien, Jason and Shane, daughter Leanne, parents Patsy and Kathleen, brothers Kevin, Joe and Michael, sisters Catriona (Hunt) and Mary (Saunders), nephews, nieces, in-laws, the extended family circle of the Kelly and Peyton families, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
