Phillips ready for challenge

Mayo hurling manager Christy Phillips
Mayo hurling manager Christy Phillips believes his side are ready for the Christy Ring Cup campaign.

On Saturday, the Connacht side travel to Newbridge where they will take on Kildare in the opening round of the second tier championship.

Kildare played in a higher level in the league, but Phillips told the Western People that they have no fear of the Lilywhites.

"We're not going to be afraid of Kildare. We played them last year and we beat them, and we know we can beat them," said Phillips.

"But this week, we're going to have to push our fellas to believe in themselves and to realise that we're as good as Kildare. If you go in with the attitude that you're going to be beaten, well you're beat before the game starts at all."
