James (Jim) O'Malley, Curaghmore, Bofeenaun, Ballina; 1921-2012

The death occurred peacefully at his home in Curraghmore, Bofeenaun, on Thursday, September 27, of James (Jim) O'Malley in the presence of his loving wife, sons, daughters and grandchildren. Jim, as he was known to all, was not only a wonderful family man but a great community man also.

Throughout his life he made numerous contributions to the Bofeenaun community, He was involved with the building of the church, the community hall, the football pitch and always found time to be involved with the collections on behalf of Western Care Association and when his local school, Rathbane NS celebrated its centenary, Jim was the oldest man present, and was given the honour of cutting the anniversary cake. Jim touched people's lives on a daily basis through his work as a farmer and builder and in his later years through his many visits to homes around the parish and further a field. As some of his friends went to greener pastures, he extended the circle by adding new houses to his visits and making new friends. Even after he stopped driving, these visits continued with one of his family members acting as 'chauffeur' taking him where he wanted to go. Family was the centre of Jim's life and he was always concerned about the happiness and well being of his extended family and his 22 grandchildren. Throughout his life he worked hard and made many sacrifices to ensure that he left all of them better off than he was. Having the great fortune of living to a fine old age in his own home, Jim celebrated his 90th birthday last December.

During the last few years, while his health was failing gradually, he was fortunate to have his family to care for him in his home. He passed away peacefully, in his own bed, in the early hours of Thursday morning, September 27. Jim had a great life, combining family, work and pleasure and his family enjoyed that life with him, leaving them with lovely memories. Under the eternal gaze of God and Nephin, may he rest in peace.

Jim is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife Annie, his five sons Sean (Culmullagh), James (Curraghmore), Paddy (Manulla), Gerard (Derrafada) and Martin (Amsterdam); his five daughters, Maureen Lenighan (Newport), Noreen O'Malley (Curraghmore) Catherine Cronnelly (Castlebar), Anne Morrin (Cross), Elizabeth Grannell (Dublin) and his sister Kate Lamb (England) He will also be sadly missed by his 22 grandchildren, relatives and many friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
