The Late Christy Feeney is mourned

Last week Ballintubber G.A.A Club mourned the unfortunate passing of one if its greatest patrons when Christy Feeney passed away on Friday morning, August 17.

He was a great community man, deeply immersed in his beloved local GAA club for his whole lifetime. His playing career stretched from the mid-1960s to the 1980s and he then served in a management capacity culminating in that great Intermediate success of 1990. Christy served Ballintubber GAA with incomparable distinction for over five decades, firstly as a player, then as a manager, coach, selector, and most recently as a distinguished administrator.

Chairman of the club form 2003 until December 2008, he presided over the planning, roofing and commencement of the Ballintubber Resource Centre project that was officially opened last year with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny. Christy was well known for his service to Ballintubber GAA and was the current club president. The tremendous facilities at Ballintubber Resource Centre Grounds would not be there if not for his persistence which started during his reign as chairman. Many hundreds filed past as his remains reposed at Ballintubber Resource Centre on the Saturday evening from 5pm to 9pm with removal to Ballintubber Abbey afterwards. Guards of Honour drawn from Ballintubber GAA Club and former colleagues from the ESB lined the roads at Ballintubber Abbey.

On Sunday a most moving Requiem Mass took place in the Abbey with the funeral proceedings to the adjoining cemetery. Deep and sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Pat; sons, Paul, Conor and John; daughters-in-law, grandchildren; brother Sean; sisters Frances and Shelia and members of the extended Feeney family on their great loss. Ar dheis De go raibh a nAinm.
