The death had occurred in Ballinrobe of Christy O'Loughlin (83) after a short illness.
Mr O'Loughlin, a native of Corrofin, Co Clare moved to the South Mayo town in 1970 to work as a Farm Manager at the agricultural institute in Creagh. He was a former vice-chairman of Ballinrobe GAA club, former President for the Ballinrobe Agricultural Society, and former Chairman of Ballinrobe & District Anglers. Mr O'Loughlin was also one of the main organisers of the World Cup Angling competitions for many years. "Christy was a great supporter of Ballinrobe GAA club during all his years in the town," said Alan Flannery, Chairman, Ballinrobe GAA Club.
"His wife Anna and all the O'Loughlin family have made a huge contribution to Ballinrobe GAA club which continues to the present day. This is a very sad day for the club, Christy was a very popular man and he will be sadly missed." Mr. O'Loughlin is survived by his wife Anna, sons, James, PJ, Brendan, Declan, Fergal and daughter Evelyn. His remains will repose at his residence this evening (Tuesday) from 5pm until 8pm. Private removal on Wednesday morning to St. Mary's Church, Ballinrobe for Funeral Mass at 12 o'clock. Burial afterwards in the new cemetery, Ballinrobe. Family flowers only.
