Ballintubber are just 60 minutes away from retaining the Moclair Cup after Ciaran Gavin's injury-time goal sealed a 1-10 to 0-6 victory over Ballina Stephenites in tonight's semi-final at Elverys MacHale Park.
The wing forward raised the game's only green flag as Ballintubber qualified for another final against the winners of tomorrow's second semi-final between Ballaghadereen and Castlebar Mitchels. The champions squeezed the life out of a Ballina team whose only point from play came from Mikey Murray in the 36th minute.
Scores from Alan Plunkett, Cillian O'Connor (three) and Noel Geraghty helped 'Tubber to a 0-5 to 0-2 interval lead. Ciaran Tracey's fifth pointed free had the margin down to two, 0-6 to 0-8, with 10 minutes remaining, but Cillian and Diarmuid O'Connor then fired points before Gavin's late strike settled it.
