Connacht MFC: Sligo sink Mayo while Rossies hit Leitrim for five

Sligo emerged four-point winners over Mayo in the Connacht MFC last night while Roscommon dispatched Leitrim with the minimum of fuss.

The Yeats County registered a 0-16 to 0-12 victory over Mayo at Markievicz Park with Eoghan Smith’s accuracy from placed balls a key ingredient in their winning formula.

Centre-forward Smith converted seven frees as the home side fought back from a 0-1 to 0-7 deficit.

They trailed by 0-7 to 0-8 at the change of ends and subsequently enjoyed the better of the second-half exchanges.

Lee Deignan (0-3), Dylan Walsh (2), Oisin Gorman (0-2), Ciaran McKeon (0-1) and Gavin Duffy (0-1) also made the scoresheet for the winners.

Meanwhile, the Rossies bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Mayo with goals from Aaron Oyiki (2), Aaron McDermott (2) and Ronan Garvin easing them to a 5-15 to 0-8 round 3 success over Leitrim.

Oyiki netted their opening goal in the 28th minute and the it was all one-way traffic in the second-half.

Next up is Leitrim v Sligo (Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada) and Galway v Mayo (MacHale Park) on June 14th.
