Andy Moran says Mayo are ready to take a familiar road following their surprise Connacht SFC semi-final loss to Roscommon last weekend.

And the veteran forward believes their first game in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers will be crucial.

“The key is the first game, you’ve got to win the first game, then of course you’ve got to win the second and the third,” Moran said at the launch of SuperValu's sponsorship of the 2019 All-Ireland SFC yesterday.

“So you can think ahead and hope to play five games in five weeks or whatever it is, but you’ve literally just got to win that first game.

“You’ve seen it over the years, there’s always a Longford, a Carlow, there’s always teams coming along really trying to win that first game.”

He continued: “We’ve been written off many times before. They could be right, they could be wrong but all we can do is go back training. We got back on Wednesday night (in Athlone) and had a really good session. Prepare for three-and-a-half weeks’ time and see how we get on. The journey awaits us and we just need to get on and get moving.”
