Mayo veteran Andy Moran reckons Dublin’s mixed Allianz Football League campaign has given fresh hope to other All-Ireland SFC contenders heading into the summer.
Defeats to Monaghan, Kerry and Tyrone left the Dubs with nothing to play for but pride heading into their final round game against Cavan and Moran, who collected Division 1 honours last Sunday, is delighted to see a more competitive football landscape heading into the 2019 Sam Maguire Cup race.
“Dublin are ahead of everyone else until they’re beaten,” the 35-year-old told the Irish Daily Star. “The good thing was Tyrone went and beat them in Croke Park. It was a big result. If they went and won the National League again – what would that have been, five-in-a-row National Leagues and then going for five-in-a-row championships?
“But it’s great to see Mayo and Kerry in the final, Galway competing and, Tyrone competing with Dublin. That’s brilliant.
“That’s just good for the game and hopefully now over the next couple of years, it can push on and be really more competitive.”
