For the second week running Mayo were involved in a penalty shoot-out but they met their match this time in arch rivals Galway.

The experience of last Sunday's shoot-out victory over Leitrim counted for little as James Horan’s side lost by 2-4 at Tuam Stadium today and it’s the Tribesmen who advance to a final showdown with Roscommon.

Kevin Walsh has Barry McHugh to thank for extending their winning run over Mayo which stretches back to 2015.

McHugh netted a last gasp equaliser for the home side in the third minute of stoppage time and the side finished deadlocked on 1-9 apiece.

A keenly contested first-half finished with Horan’s charges ahead by 1-5 to 0-3.

Jason Doherty pounced for the Mayo goal in the 29th minute but the Tribesmen turned around for the second-half with the advantage of a strong wind at their backs.

McHugh came to his side’s rescue late on and he was one of four penalty scorers for the winners.

The others were Liam Silke, Johnny Heaney and Tom Flynn while Diarmuid O’Connor and Andy Moran missed Mayo’s spot-kicks.
