Alan Dillon is backing Corofin to retain their All-Ireland club SFC crown.

The former Mayo forward was speaking to the Western People after Ballintubber came up short against the Andy Merrigan Cup holders in yesterday's Connacht final.

"We competed very well in the first half, but the quality of Corofin shone through," said Dillon, who scored two points from play.

"We couldn't get a foothold in the game in the first 15 minutes of the second half and the damage was done after that. The game kind of fizzled out midway through the second half. They are a fantastic team, they are worthy All-Ireland champions and it will take a special team to beat them this year."

Despite yesterday's disappointment, 2018 was a successful year for Ballintubber.

"You have to look back with fond memories of what we have achieved," Dillon continued.

"We came from nowhere this year to contest a Connacht final. There are loads of positives to take from it. A lot of our young fellas got a taste of this competition and that's only good for the future."
