Louth's Wayne Kierans

Wayne Kierans says his Louth side will be going all out to secure a semi-final berth in the O’Byrne Cup when they travel to take on Longford next Saturday.

The Wee County secured their first victory of the new season on Saturday after defeating Wicklow by 1-17 to 1-9 in Bray, despite the early dismissal of veteran forward Andy McDonnell, and their manager has big ambitions for the first competition of his team’s 2019 campaign.

“We will definitely be going to win that one,” Kierans is quoted saying by the Irish Sun.

“If we produce a performance similar to Saturday, with 15 men this time, we would have a very good chance of winning it.”

On the dismissal of McDonnell, the Wee County boss told LMFM: “I genuinely didn’t see the incident. There was a big reaction from the Wicklow bench and the referee said, ‘Check the video’.

“That’s exactly what he said. Obviously he deemed it to be a striking offence.”
